The Election: November 6, 2018

THE DONKEY AND THE ELEPHANT

I’ve a fun, and somewhat silly astrological election-calling device that I’d like to share.

It is well enough to compare the charts of candidates, but what of the parties themselves?

This would seem an equally or more important comparison. But, how can one do this?

There are several possible ways, the simplest method being a comparison of mascots. What?

The he Democratic Party uses a donkey as its mascot, whereas the the Republican Party is typically depicted by an elephant. Astrologically, the hard working donkey is ruled by Saturn and the giant elephant by Jupiter.  Therefore, in this game, Saturn stands for the Democratic party and the Elephant for the Republican party.

The game goes like this: on the date of the election, the strongest planet by sign wins. Secondly, check if the Moon’s last aspect on election day was a good aspect to either Saturn or Jupiter.

Astrologers may object to this scheme because it seems counterintuitive.

Saturn is normally seen as the planet of big business and Jupiter of philanthropy.

Most folks associate the former more with Republican interests and the later with Democratic concerns. However, we just as easily could think of Saturn as representative of the hard working poor and Jupiter as the wealthy!

The weird part is that this seemingly ridiculous game has correctly called the last several elections, and has not yet let me down! I’ve been sharing this with my apprentices for years but tonight it felt time to unveil the “silly” but effective method. Try it yourself in the next several national elections. Maybe it is a fluke and will reverse one day.  After all, this is all fun and games!

Saturn is in his own sign on Nov 6th, (Capricorn) and receiving a sextile from the Moon in Scorpio. Jupiter  is in Scorpio, on an “anaretic” degree (unstable and sometimes unlucky), void, but in a compatible sign (Jupiter does well in a Water sign); and the Moon will join “him”

in this sign, although not closely - and directing her beam to Saturn. The Moon governs the public mood.

The parties look well balanced with a slight edge to Saturn.

I’ve written this portion after the elections closed, but have shared this system with students

and friends for years. The following write up was written prior to the election and submitted to the webmaster on Nov 4th.

The Election: November 6, 2018

Personally, I prefer to avoid discussing politics, however, we can use November 6th to teach astrology and leave the predictions to others.

This election week could not be more astrologically dynamic! There is the tradition of the “eclipse trigger”. Mars will trigger two eclipses this week!

A eclipse trigger occurs when a planet, mostparticularly the Sun, Mars, (or the planet ruling the sign of the recent eclipse) moves by transit into a “square”, “quincunx”, “opposition” or “conjunction” aspect to the astrological degree of a previous eclipse that occurred in the last year. The trigger planet releases the force field at this time, in a manner we know not how.

The exact date-of-trigger may be set off a few dates early or late when the Moon comes to these same trigger degrees, adding to the pressure. I discuss all this in depth in my book Eclipses and You.

This month we have both the Sun and Mars moving to trigger off  two recent eclipses that occurred in the very political signs of Leo and Aquarius. Leo rules Kings and Aquarius rules “the people”.

We had two eclipses that occurred in the last 15 months across the 27-28 degrees of opposite signs Leo and Aquarius.  The Total Solar Eclipse on 28 Leo occurred on August 21st, 2017. On February 15th, 2018, a mirror image Partial Solar Eclipse occurred opposite at 27 Aquarius.

This November 10-15, Mars and the Moon will come to 27-28˚ Aquarius. Sol joins the triggering party between November 18th-21st when he achieves 27-28˚ of Scorpio, a sign that squares both Leo and Aquarius.

For fun, those who collect my newsletters can look back to what I may have written about this event in the July-Aug, 2017 newsletter.

This month’s trigger from both transit Mars-in-Aquarius and Sun-in-Scorpio certainly agitates the public, left wing groups and all “people’s” movements. This is a level-10 agitation. I will be interesting to see what will happen.

Female Candidates

Clients have asked if I think many women will be elected (this newsletter is written and submitted to the webmaster on November 4th.)

I cannot judge this question specifically without an intensive study of all candidates, and their personal horoscopes.

However, for interest, let’s consider the male-female aspects on the exact day of the election.

Venus is particular would rule candidates that the public perceives as female. In our gender-fluid world, it is important to state that. What I cannot know in this cursory study is whether a particular female candiate is signified by a “significator” other then Venus, perhaps Saturn. We could discern that only on a case-by-case basis. For our study purposes, we will use Venus as our general significator for “female candidates”.

Moon represents females too, (especially mothers), but in the context of an election, the Moon governs the public mood, and how it fluctuates throughout election day.

Mars signifies male gender. However, when the current Mars-in-Aquarius is busy triggering the eclipses from the left-leaning, equality oriented sign of Aquarius, (as he will do this next week), this  may instead represent public activism coming to assist Venus.

Let’s take a look at November 6th.

Venus is strong by sign, being in her home sign of Libra. However, Venus is retrograde, and “inconjunct” Jupiter in Scorpio, the sign governing sexual issues (abortion rights included). Scorpio is also an intensely political sign, always deeply committed to the issues and unbending. The abortion issue would fit this inconjunct of transit Jupiter to transit Venus. The inconjunct  is a sneaky aspect, often veiled from view. Jupiter’s inconjunct from Scorpio could represent the full force of collective prejudice (both left and right wing) that will take everyone by surprise (again).

Venus is also in “the bends” or squaring the transit Lunar Nodes within 3 degrees.

This is highly stressful for Venus (some favored female candidates).

However, Mars-in-Aquarius is trining Venus by “mutual application”. This means that these two planets are applying to one another because Venus is moving backwards into the trine as Mars moves forward into the trine. This gives Venus votes from the politically aroused left wing.

The wild card is Uranus. This planet of shock, unexpected surprises and upsets ingresses backwards into Aries the precise morning of the election! Not only this, but Uranus opposes Venus. Aries is a warrior sign.  His dispositor Mars is assisting Venus! Ah, but lo and behold, he also moves to a mutual application sextile to his dispositor Mars! So we know that some female candidates may very well indeed shock everyone by winning with a great arising of democratic and male votes. Will this be enough to get Venus ( female candidates and women’s issues) out of trouble? Let us look at the public mood as shown by the Moon.

In the wee hours of November 6th, the Moon is in Libra, joining Venus. It appears that the ladies take the votes coming in early, previous day Monday included.

Then, Luna shifts into Scorpio, where she remains the rest of the day and night. Luna opposes Uranus right off. We know there is a strong “gender revenge” or “revenge upon gender” at this time. Personally, I believe this favors the pro-choice movement that gained a terrific head of steam during Jupiter’s transit of Scorpio (still lasting until November 8th).

However, the Scorpio Moon could just as easily represent the “Me Too” movement! Both sides are rearing up in their respective collective horror.

The Moon, now in Scorpio, rounds out the day by sextiling Saturn in the evening. Saturn governs conservative forces and big business. However, Saturn is also a champion of “workers” and governs donkeys, the mascot for the Democratic Party. This makes it hard to know exactly how to interpret this aspect, although most traditional astrologers would assess Saturn as conservative, i.e. right wing.

The assessment looks quite mixed nationally, and hard to call. The votes tallied from Monday may look to favor candidates that are later overthrown as the day progresses.

If one reads the transits literally, we can say that yes, some specific female candidates will spring surprise wins.

We could also see colossal losses to female candidates and the left. Some elections will have staggering consequences. The abortion issue may decide this election, either way. (Or, does the potent Scorpio mood produce a wave from the “Me Too” movement?)

On the other hand, we could see some big wins for democrats too! On both sides appear big gains and big losses! Is anyone happy?

As an astrologer trained in the answering of specific questions (yay, nay, maybe), I prefer to provide firm answers. To be honest, the sky of November 6th presents an extreme picture, for both sides. This probably interprets exactly as that. Both sides will wring their hands over some election outcomes while rejoicing over others.

The transit Moon and Jupiter in Scorpio together suggests that ire, animosity and manipulation inspire the collective unconscious. The outcome of the majority elections favors whomever gathers the most collective revengeful furor; or conversely, whomever can suppress the most votes by nefarious means.

The trend of our elections since Bush may very well repeat: cheating, suppression and miscounts may tweak our elections.  Although Venus (women candidates and female issues) indeed stands in her own sign, she is beset with difficulty. Obviously, this is true.

On November 6th, Jupiter, the great planet savior of democratic processes is substantially impeded, being in the last degree of the sign Scorpio. The last, or “anaretic” degree is often a degree producing a “last hurrah’ of said sign, and thus the most extreme qualities of that sign, in this case Scorpio. Secondly, anaretic degrees are unstable and weakened. The last degree of Scorpio is literally the sting of the scorpion. Jupiter, the Great Benefic passes over the Scorpion’s sting during the week of the election.

This assessment is for educational purposes only, and not to be considered as a formal statement of prediction.
