THE JANUARY 5TH ECLIPSE (EST/PST)
Partial Solar Eclipse (South Node side of node polarity) January 5th, 3:33am PST, at 15.25 degrees of Capricorn.
Let’s interpret this eclipse by sign, (Capricorn) and most essentially, by its nodal polarity. As far as I know, I am the first astrologer to bring out Nodal Polarity as an essential eclipse-interpreting tool. Today, I’ll demonstrate this supremely useful method.
My book “Eclipses and You: How to Align with Life’s Hidden Tides” includes the first Eclipse Calendar inclusive of “north” or “south” nodal polarity. Also included are rare substantial sections on Medical Effects and Cautions specific to each zodiac sign eclipse; and personal interpretations for eclipses in all signs, for each Ascendant sign and also for each personal planet that may be impacted in your personal chart!
The Celestial Dragon
All eclipses occur near one of the two “Lunar Nodes.” The North Node is known as “The Dragon’s Head”, and you guessed it, the South Node is the “Dragon’s Tail”. Soli-Lunar energy enters at the Head and exits at the Tail. Its that simple! However, interpretation is full of individual nuance.
The upcoming January 5th “South Node” eclipse in Capricorn
Our upcoming event is a “South Node Eclipse”, at the Dragon’s Tail. Effects are quite distinct from a solar eclipse at the North Node end of the Moon’s nodal polarity! This influences the everyone personally in a unique way. However, it also impacts the whole world.
The World, General Health Effects and Cautions: Greater Detail is provided on the global impacts of Capricorn eclipses in my book Eclipses and You (available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, American Federation of Astrologers, Inc.)
Capricorn governs large agricultural interests, government structure, rules, larger weather concerns and has a significant influence on world finance, world forests, world ice bergs, etc. - “the state of Gaia”.
The South Node is the releasing point, and we have explained, it is the proverbial “Dragon’s Tail”. This term is a delicate way of describing the great defecation point of soli-lunar energies. While celestial power surges occur at the North Node (the Dragon’s Head”), we experience cosmic power outages at the Dragon’s Tail. This cannot be good for the state of the natural world.
The effect of eclipses is begins vibrating in the month preceding. It is curious to note that the USA government is threatening a “shut down” as we approach this event! We also see the apparent collapse of an epic governmental building project (hint, hint).
Seismicity typically increases around Earth sign eclipses (Capricorn is an earth sign).
It is plausible that we might see a magnitude 8 earthquake occur, or perhaps an active volcano in January-February. We actually have two eclipses in January with planetary triggers to them occurring in both months as well. This is not a formal prediction, just guesswork.
Eclipses build fluidic pressure - visualize a triple strength full or new moon!
Because it is wintertime, we might also expect increased or more powerful world storms, ice problems, increased mud and rock slides, tidal surges and floods within these months and especially near these dates. Again, these are not “predictions”, but educated guesses. Everyone knows its getting bad out there, weatherwise. Astrology works in partnership with what humankind has wrought.
The problem with Capricorn’s “world axis” eclipses is that seismic events can be real doozies. South Node Capricorn eclipses can also suggest famine, grain shortages, livestock issues, forest destruction, large animal extinction and rodent epidemics (to name a few). Capricorn influences all mining and coal related industries as well.
All hands on deck! There could not be a better time to lend your support the Save the Redwoods League, Natural Wildlife Foundation, GreenPeace, The Nature Conservancy et al.
Dates of heightened seismic, storm and volcanic concern:
January 4-6, 19-26, and especially Feb 10-18.

PERSONAL EFFECTS:
South Node Capricorn Eclipse By House: A South Node Solar Eclipse creates a “power outage” in the astrological house it occurs in sometime within the following year and most likely within three months. “Something” exits in this arena. Or, something falls apart (the roof?). After all, Capricorn is a profoundly structural sign. Positively, you can be rid of an unwanted person or thing represented by the specific astrological house in your life (perhaps this eclipse occurs in your 5th house of children, and your thirty-five year old kid finally moves out!) You see, loss is sometimes welcome! Personally, I find that the whole sign house system works best, though you can experiment with your own preferred system. What does a “power outage” suggest? Many possibilities, both positive and negative. Positively, one can “channel” the aspect into charitable giving sacrifice or inner work. Negatively, be prepared to let go something or someone. Capricorn has vocational, business and status associations. Change occurs to long established institutions, customs and relationships. Interpretations for this eclipse for all twelve ascendant signs is provided in "Eclipses and You." South Node Capricorn Eclipse Conjunct a Planet in Your Chart: Do you have a planet between 12-18 degrees of Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra? If so, the people and activities governed by this planet will experience change or events within the year, most probably within three months. However, should your planet actually be in Capricorn, be prepared to release something this planet signifies for you. Or, you must be of service to whomever or whatever this planet signifies! A third option is to give selflessly in the manner this planet suggests (love, for instance, in the case of Venus!) Perhaps this coming ‘South Node Solar Eclipse’ over someone’s natal Mars corresponds with fatigue, (or lower iron or testosterone levels). Maybe too, a loss of gainful employment is threatened (Mars has much to do with money). Conversely, this same “power outage” over natal Mars brings along a satisfying volunteer building project, or maybe an interest in a spiritual martial arts or exercise (yoga, Tai Chi). It is different for every chart! Significant personal detail on all South Node eclipses conjunct all planets in the natal chart is detailed in Eclipses and You. CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEA: SUPPORT SMALL PRESS! In the last few years, small publishers, while increasing in number, are largely shut out of book stores and syndicate book reviews. Advertising is also exorbitant and beyond the reach of us little guys. This Christmas, think about supporting small astrological press authors. My astrologically inclined readers may also wish to know that I have an illustrated a delightful, non-violent fairy tale book for the modern era out under a pseudonym (below). “Mrs. Winkler’s Cure.” Here are my offerings through Stellium Press, and suggested reader level. Please purchase These books through Amazon; Barnes & Noble; The American Federation of Astrologers, Inc.; and New Renaissance Book Shop (in Portland).
