All too often we are inclined to think of the ‘Sun Sign’ as a personality type. This habitual simplification is popularized by the ubiquitous question “What’s your sign?” However, there are so much more to seasonal influences than character type. More accurately, the expressed character type is the outer face of far deeper spiritual, vibrational, and cosmobiological currents. This is actually a very deep subject!

This idealogical simplification can incline the more thoughtful astrological student to discount sun sign influences. We are sometimes taught that “star signs’” are mere ‘popular astrology’, and therefore subordinate to the many other factors in the natal chart. It is true that we should never rely on Sun sign alone to describe the person. The whole chart gestalt describes a unique human life. Sol, however, remains the heart of every chart, much as ‘he’ reigns as our solar system’s central pulse. Therefore, all planets, houses, etc., must be sifted through the current Sun’s influence of the birth day - its sign and decan position, house, etc. (a decan is one third of a sign.)

Individual sign influences have been observed by untold numbers of astrologers for thousands of years now. There must be something to it!

Sign influence extends to many levels of being. All of these have been documented by numerous authors, many with decades of empirical experience. Scientific statistical evidence by various researchers, including myself, has backed many of these observations.

These levels are:

Astrophysiognomy (physical appearance)

Character traits (habits, mannerism, likes and dislikes, idiosyncrasies)

Vocal tone

Medical Syndromes and health tendencies

Vocational aptitude and inclination

Compatibility with other signs and sign groups

Planet, number, color, cell salt, musical note, and gem harmonies

Spiritual consciousness and portal on the twelve-spoked seasonal wheel

Weather influences

It behooves professional consulting astrologers to obtain a strong handle on how birth or planetary dominance in any of the twelve zodiac signs influences and informs all these levels! Although I’ve neglected yet more levels, this list encompasses the most frequent concerns arising within the reading room. In it, I’ll review the uniqueness of each sign to provide a deeper understanding of the physical, spiritual, behavioral and vocational expression of these signs.
