Using Eclipses & Nodal Polarity for Timing & Interpretation: Basics
October 2023

The last of our recent series of Taurus-Scorpio polarity eclipses (began November 2021) will occur this October 28th at 4:24 pm ET at 5˚. 09 Taurus, a fixed sign of the earth triplicity.
This is an annular, North Node style, Lunar eclipse. Traditionally, “Fixed” sign Lunar eclipses are believed to influence us for as many years as they are hours long (inclusive of totality - which typically lasts only thirty minutes to just over one hour). However, in my practice, I’ve observed that any decent eclipse can produce results in the life when intermittently triggered by transiting planets for one, through one-and-a-half years, sometimes even through two years!
This event’s first and immediate, influences will be felt at least one full week prior through one-three months following.
Eclipses always occur when the lights (Sun and Moon) situated close to the Lunar Nodes. This October 28th eclipse is the epicenter for excess Lunar “pressure” entering at the North Node end, in the “fixed” sign Taurus. Fixed eclipses are thought to be powerful, and the longest lasting in ongoing, effects. Taurus governs the mouth, throat, ENT, and has a significant influence over financial affairs, food, grazing animals, agriculture, the plant world, and the ground itself, La Tierra (plus much more). However, the point of this small article is not interpreting this event, but to teach the interested reader how to interpret them.
To begin your own interpretation process, first locate the ‘house’ of your chart where lives the sign Taurus. This area may experience a lot of “something” flooding in - it could be money, food, objects, pressure, new contacts, swelling, or actual floods (no lie - I’ve seen pipes burst on similar eclipses).
Now observe the opposite sign, Scorpio. Here, we have the South Node. Although the Moon is eclipsed in Taurus, the Sun in Scorpio remains the fulcrum of this eclipse - what I fondly term our “Eclipse Master”.
How do we interpret the Sun-South Node influence, in Scorpio? This is just as important, or more so, than the more obvious Lunar side of this eclipse event!
The area where resides Scorpio in the birth chart will see S. Node effects, i.e. “something” moving out, moving on, cleansing - while also providing an opportunity to perform selfless tasks or helpful service. Some feel this last is a great way to “pay off karmic debts”, thus re-channeling and neutralizing the more potentially harmful effects of the South Node!
The same would hold true should the South Node side of this eclipse occur closely conjunct a natal planet in someone’s birth chart. What exactly does that planet mean to you personally? What does that planet signify in your natal chart? How have you experienced this planet in your life? Does it represent a person, a pet, a vocation, or a health issue? What houses does it rule? What are this planet’s traditional significators? And so forth. These questions must be answered first before deciding the plausible outcome of an eclipse on any “native” - I just love these old astrological terms!
The same logic can be applied to natal planets in Taurus. Should the North Node side of this eclipse (Taurus), happen within a 3˚ orb of a natal planet, it brings a train of desired (or unwanted) Lunar energy, of a Taurus influence, to that singular natal planet. However, the interpretation would be dependent on what that planet means for you in the first place, plus many other factors (including what is possible within the framework of your life and times).
For example, a North Node Lunar eclipse in Taurus is hopeful event for an anemic natal Mars (because Mars rules iron, energy, ambition). Conversely, this same event might be dangerous for a swelling cyst that might be indicated by a natal Venus in Taurus placement (only if relevant - most of you with this placement will not have swelling cysts).
A complete and rare account of eclipse conjunctions by South or North nodal polarity to natal planets is provided in my book “Eclipses and You”, plus remediation tips for eclipses in general. This information is essential to all genre of astrologers and medical astrologers.
Because this book is now ten years old, its nodal polarity eclipse calendar has run out! To remedy this problem, we have blog-posted and updated the world’s first Eclipse Calendar inclusive of Nodal Polarity, for astrological use. You can find this calendar at: https://www.judithhillastrology.com/eclipse-calendar-with-nodal-polarity-2021-2032
This tool will be extremely helpful for your correct interpretation of eclipses inclusive of their North or South polarity. The effects are of each polarity are quite different!
