Bring astrological herbalism into your life with these recipes from Mrs. Winkler's Cosmic Apothecary.
This year, the Sun is in the Saturn-ruled signs (Capricorn & Aquarius) simultaneously with Saturn’s sojourn through Aquarius. Astrologically, this is hyper ASTRINGENT and COLD.
“Aquarius Syndrome” includes (all, or in part): low oxygenation, fatigue, poor blood quality, anemia, poor nutrient assimilation, cold extremities, poor circulation - “low blood”, bodily stiffness, spasm, low blood pressure or weak heart muscle, water near ankle, depression, social isolation. Although classic to Aquarian types, the syndrome can be experienced in other sign natives, especially those born with a strong accent in this sign (Saturn, or, perhaps Moon in Aquarius, and so forth). You can find more on “Aquarius Syndrome” in Medical Astrology by Sun Signs course.
This delicious herby recipe makes a wonderful “Breakfast for Aquarians”!
Mrs. Winkler heard tell of one person born with both the natal Sun and Moon in Aquarius, exactly square Saturn, who suffered a lifelong case of “Aquarian Syndrome”. They were mostly relieved of many symptoms (especially the stiffness) after two-plus months of enjoying this breakfast each day.
Best used, or begun, at January’s Aquarius Moon, but good anytime all winter, or when craved anytime in the year!
Aquarius Moon of January (New Moon!): January 21st at 10:29 am Pacific Time - through - January 23rd at 2:19 pm Pacific Time.
Venus will be in Aquarius at this time, conjoining Saturn on Sunday, Jan 22nd at 2:13 pm Pacific Time. This helps relax “tight”, cold situations of the circulation. The Moon joins Venus in Aquarius on January 23rd at 2:19 am PT. Traditionally, this is thought to bring energy to the lower leg, blood, and venous system. These times are all perfect for treating Aquarius syndrome, (especially the latter), although they may not be breakfast time in your specific time zone! The whole span of the Aquarius Moon is good. Aquarius and Libra Moons, are also good.
RECIPE
‘AQUARIUS SYNDROME’ OATMEAL “BREAKFAST FOR AQUARIANS”
For two servings, or one huge serving.
Bring to boil two glasses of good-quality water in a medium size saucepan.
Add one cup oatmeal
Large handful of black, organic raisins (at to the water now, allow to cook in and swell)
One tablespoon of loose Yerba Mate tea. Remove any obvious twigs or unwanted matter. (if you prefer a less strong herby flavor, use a teaspoon, or to taste)
One full tablespoon of Nettles (fine cut, dry leaf). Remove all obvious twigs or unwanted matter. Some may prefer mixing the nettles in at the end when the oatmeal is resting (see below).
Alternative: For “coffee” background flavor, cook the oatmeal in dandelion root tea, instead of water. The taste will be altered, so try it both ways and see which you prefer!
As soon as the water boils, immediately reduce it to a simmer, and cover. Check first, to make sure the mixture is not sticking to the bottom of the saucepan. If so, stir and/or add in a small amount of water to thin.
The oatmeal should be ready in 5-10 minutes (to taste).
Let stand covered for 5 minutes “resting.”
Now, add a tablespoon of Flaxseeds. Mix in well.
Sweeten to taste with stevia, honey, or sweetener of choice (or not).
Add almond milk.
Enjoy!
