October 2022

Bring astrological herbalism into your life with these recipes from Mrs. Winkler's Cosmic Apothecary.

Hypothetically miraculous for weak hand and thumb ligaments, digital weakness, stiffness! Mrs. Winkler received the original tip on Dandelion’s remarkable thumb healing powers from either Phyllis Light or Mary Pat Palmer (she cannot remember which!). Nevertheless, what was taught is true.

And…what a nice way to both counteract, and make use of Mars’ long transit in Gemini! (Gemini co-rules the hands.)  If your physician agrees, you can start your Dandy Hand program on the astrologically ‘perfect’ date given below. Alternatively, you herbalists out there could begin your tincturing process within this time precise window:

Monday, October 17th at 11:44 pm PT - Tuesday, Oct 18th at 10:16 pm PT Best time: 7:20 PM (30 min prior to 10 min following).

Recipe: Makes 4 cups (two days typical dosage - see disclaimer below)

  1. Add two tablespoons of roasted Dandelion roots (Taraxacum official) to six cups of pure water. (one and a half tablespoons will also work fine.)

  2. Bring to boil for a few minutes, then reduce heat to ‘low’. Simmer for 30-60 minutes, or until the water is reduced to four cups, and very brown.

  3. Remove from heat.

  4. Add a large pinch of powdered Angelica Root (Angelica archangelica), and another large pinch of powdered Burdock root (Arcticum lappa). Allow to simmer for a few minutes. Alternatively, you add 2- 3 teaspoons each, of dried, cut, Angelica, and Burdock Roots (instead of powder).

  5. Delicious with almond milk, vanilla flavored, and stevia.

Note: if you don’t have the Burdock and Angelica Root, the Dandelion Root is fine as a simple - on its own!

You can make a second pot from one pot of roots, by filling again with water, and repeating the steps, though not allowing a full boil. It won’t be as strong.

Dosage: dosage cannot be correctly given without a) the consent of your licensed physician; b) assessing the age, weight, birth chart, and condition of the individual. Herbalists relate that dosage for normal weight, woman under age 60: is one-three cups a day, four-six times a week - depending on the individual case.

For your doctor’s knowledge, this infusion uses approximately one-third or more Dandelion Root than the amount that is typically suggested for enjoyment drinking (and may be reduced as your health practitioner suggests). After one or two months, reduce to three times per week. Your physician must assess dosage and contraindications.
